《I Saw a Hippie Girl on 8th Ave》歌词

I Saw a Hippie Girl on 8th Ave

[00:00:00] I Saw a Hippie Girl on 8th Ave - Jeffrey Lewis/Jack Lewis/Anders Griffen

[00:00:03] I saw a hippy girl on 8th avenue

[00:00:05] She barely looked at me for a second or two

[00:00:09] And I suddenly realized I no longer looked much like a hippy

[00:00:15] She had a long thin dress and rainbow clothes

[00:00:18] Not long ago I wore one of those

[00:00:22] But nowadays I guess I don't very much

[00:00:24] Like anything

[00:00:28] I had a great pair of bellbottoms

[00:00:29] I had two

[00:00:31] My friend borrowed one

[00:00:33] And the other I outgrew

[00:00:35] And now to the eye

[00:00:36] I'm turning into another

[00:00:38] Non-descript guy

[00:00:41] But I still travel light

[00:00:43] And my hair is still long

[00:00:44] And I still hate deoderant

[00:00:46] And I still sing songs

[00:00:48] But over the years I've noticed

[00:00:49] I'm not dressing as colorfully and psychedelic as I used to

[00:00:55] Cause I wore my tye-dyes

[00:00:56] Until they rotted to shreds

[00:00:58] And I can no longer follow

[00:00:59] The Greatful Dead

[00:01:01] And it's gotten to the point where I don't even identify with most Phish fans anymore

[00:01:08] And someday soon I know I'll cut my hair

[00:01:11] And a week after that I know I won't even care

[00:01:14] Is that what it all comes to

[00:01:17] All along

[00:01:18] Everything that you feel

[00:01:19] Will one day feel wrong

[00:01:21] I was talking to my friend Eric

[00:01:23] Just to see what he thunk

[00:01:24] And he said

[00:01:25] Jeff it's weird

[00:01:26] But I no longer look like a punk

[00:01:28] I guess we don't need our clothes

[00:01:29] For an identity crutch

[00:01:31] And we looked at each other

[00:01:32] And we didn't look like much

[00:01:34] And we looked out at the world

[00:01:36] Like a movie theatre

[00:01:38] At all the hippies and the punks

[00:01:39] And the skinheads and the skaters

[00:01:41] And someday or other

[00:01:43] Maybe sooner or later

[00:01:44] They'll come to the realization

[00:01:46] That what's important is what you can carry on

[00:01:48] In human conversation

[00:01:49] And it's not what you wear on the outside

[00:01:53] It's what you think and feel on the inside
