Utah Carol

[00:00:00] Utah Carol - Marty Robbins

[00:00:05] And now my friends you've asked me

[00:00:08] What makes me sad and still

[00:00:11] And why my brow is darkened

[00:00:14] Like the clouds upon the hill

[00:00:17] Run in your ponies closer

[00:00:19] And I'll tell to you my tale

[00:00:22] Of Utah Carol my partner

[00:00:25] And his last ride on the trail

[00:00:28] We rode the range together

[00:00:31] And rode it side by side

[00:00:34] I loved him like a brother

[00:00:36] And I wept when Utah died

[00:00:39] We were rounding up one morning

[00:00:42] When work was almost done

[00:00:45] When on his side the cattle

[00:00:48] Started on a frightened run

[00:00:51] Underneath the saddle

[00:00:53] That the boss's daughter rode

[00:00:56] Utah that very morning

[00:00:59] Had placed a bright red robe

[00:01:02] So the saddle might ride

[00:01:04] Easy for Lenore his little friend

[00:01:07] And it was this red blanket

[00:01:10] That brought him to his end

[00:01:13] The blanket was now dragging

[00:01:16] Behind her on the ground

[00:01:19] The frightened cattle saw it

[00:01:22] And charged it with a bound

[00:01:25] Lenore then saw her danger

[00:01:27] And turned her pony's face

[00:01:30] And leaning in the saddle tied

[00:01:33] The blanket to its place

[00:01:36] But in leaning lost her balance

[00:01:38] Fell in front of that wild tide

[00:01:41] "Lay still Lenore I'm coming"

[00:01:44] Were the words that Utah cried

[00:01:47] His faithful pony saw her

[00:01:50] And reached her with a bound

[00:01:53] I thought he'd been successful

[00:01:56] And raised her from the ground

[00:01:58] But the weight upon the saddle

[00:02:01] Had not been felt before

[00:02:04] His backcinch snapped like thunder

[00:02:07] And he fell by Lenore

[00:02:10] Picking up the blanket

[00:02:13] He swung it over his head

[00:02:15] And started cross the prairie

[00:02:18] "Lay still Lenore" he said

[00:02:21] When he got the stampede turned

[00:02:24] And saved Lenore his friend

[00:02:27] He turned to face the cattle

[00:02:29] And meet his fatal end

[00:02:32] His six gun flashed like lightning

[00:02:35] The report rang loud and clear

[00:02:38] As the cattle rushed and killed him

[00:02:41] He dropped the leading steer

[00:02:44] On his funeral morning

[00:02:46] I heard the preacher say

[00:02:49] I hope we'll all meet Utah

[00:02:52] At the roundup far away

[00:02:55] Then they wrapped him in a blanket

[00:02:58] That saved his little friend

[00:03:00] And it was this red blanket

[00:03:03] That brought him to his end
