[00:00:24] Been on a long hike and they arrived in a little town called Casino The

[00:00:31] Next morning being Sunday several of the boys went to Church and after the Chaplain had read the prayer

[00:00:39] The text was taken up next Those of the boys who had a prayer book took

[00:00:44] Them out but this one boy had only a deck of cards and so he spread

[00:00:51] Them out The Sergeant saw the cards and said "Soldier put away those

[00:00:56] Cards " After the services the soldier was taken prisoner and

[00:01:16] Brought before the Provost Marshall

[00:01:19] The Marshall said "Sergeant why have you brought this man

[00:01:22] Here " "For playing cards in church Sir " "And what have you to say for

[00:01:27] Yourself son " "Much Sir " replied the soldier The Marshall said "I

[00:01:33] Hope so for if not I shall punish you more than any man was ever

[00:01:37] Punished " The soldier said "Sir I have been on the march for about six

[00:01:46] Days I have neither a Bible nor a prayer book but I hope to satisfy

[00:01:51] You Sir with the purity of my intentions " And with that the boy

[00:01:56] Started his story:

[00:01:58] "You see Sir when I look at the Ace  it reminds me that there

[00:02:02] Is but one God And the Deuce reminds me that the Bible is divided into

[00:02:06] Two parts the Old and the New Testaments When I see the Trey  I think

[00:02:12] Of the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost And when I see the Four  I

[00:02:19] Think of the four Evangelists who preached the Gospel; there was Matthew

[00:02:24] Mark Luke and John And when I see the Five  it reminds me of the five

[00:02:30] Wise virgins who trimmed their lamps; there were ten of them: five were

[00:02:37] Wise and were saved five were foolish and were shut out When I see the

[00:02:43] Six  it reminds me that in six days God made this great heaven and

[00:02:46] Earth When I see the Seven  it reminds me that on the seventh day God

[00:02:50] Rested from His great work And when I see the Eight  I think of the

[00:02:57] Eight righteous persons God saved when He destroyed this earth; there was

[00:03:00] Noah his wife their sons and their wives And when I see the Nine  I

[00:03:06] Think of the lepers our Savior cleansed and nine out of the ten didn't

[00:03:11] Even thank Him When I see the Ten  I think of the Ten Commandments God

[00:03:16] Handed down to Moses on a table of stone When I see the King  it

[00:03:22] Reminds me that there is but one King of Heaven God Almighty And when I

[00:03:28] See the Queen  I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary

[00:03:33] And the Jack or Knave is the Devil

[00:03:36] When I count the number

[00:03:37] Of spots on a deck of cards I find 365

[00:03:41] The number of days in a year

[00:03:44] There are 52 cards the number of weeks in a year

[00:03:48] There are 4 suits the

[00:03:49] Number of weeks in a month There are 12 picture cards the number of

[00:03:53] Months in a year There are 13 tricks the number of weeks in a quarter

[00:04:04] So you see Sir my pack of cards serves me as a Bible an Almanac and a

[00:04:09] Prayer Book "
