I Do This

[00:05:47] I do this 'cause I wanna like me. And I do this 'cause I want you to like me.

[00:05:47] I think it's win/win. Having only those two lines would be eccentric, but also very relevant. I would maybe try writing more on the subject, and if you don't like how it comes out sounding, just drop it and stick with the two lines? I'm definitely into the concept of the song, either way. I would expand though, this song is waiting to breathe life

[00:05:47] Peter -- I think it's a classic question, and I would go after it. I'm no song writer or lyricist, but I could almost imagine it as playing out as "a grocery list" of reasons. Sit down and maybe just free-associate that list and see where that takes the song. Can't wait to see where it goes!"

[00:05:47] I think that question is as simple as merely unanswerable. we are social beings communicating. making songs, hearing songs is part of that. like loading up a picture on flickr, choosing a t-shirt for the day, talking to somebody, looking to somebody. Composing and playing music is just a pretty sophisticated way to do those things we do. but why? because we were separated in the big bang - and now endlessly trying to find our joining cord? Or reassure ourselves that we still understand each other - even that we drift apart since then? And there is this overwhelming desire to transcendence in us. we germans have this term called 'sehnsucht'. You can't really translate this, but it's a melancholic longing for something which seems to be so near but out of reach. I would guess, there is quite a lot 'sehnsucht' in your music - and your reason for doing what your doing. but as i said before: that's probably the part, that is unanswerable... It's going to be a great song. thank you for that. I'm one of them, who's happy, that you're doing, what you're doing

[00:05:47] Hi Peter, love this idea - thanks... I think there's a lot of overlap between your two reasons that could be examined but most interesting for me is doing it because 'I want you to like me'... It would be great if you could expand on this - who is it you want to like you (everyone (!?), family, friends?) why do you want them to like you (is it ego, reassurance or a desire for harmony)? What is it about making music that will make people like you - perhaps this is about making a connection with people like the comment above - there's a lot of ground in this but I think it risks becoming a philosophy seminar - for me, the songs I connect most with are those that are personal - there will be different reasons from day to day, project to project, why we do what we do - I think it would be good to think about a given point in time or maybe address the song to someone? Can't wait to hear some new material - all the very best"
