[00:00:02] A farmer was driving his wagon along a miry country road after a heavy rain

[00:00:08] The horses could hardly drag the load through the deep mud

[00:00:12] And at last came to a standstill

[00:00:13] When one of the wheels sank to the hub in a rut

[00:00:18] The farmer climbed down from his seat and stood beside the wagon looking at it

[00:00:23] But without making the least effort to get it out of the rut

[00:00:27] All he did was to curse his bad luck

[00:00:30] And call loudly on Hercules to come to his aid

[00:00:34] Then it is said Hercules really did appear saying

[00:00:38] Put your shoulder to the wheel man and urge on your horses

[00:00:42] Do you think you can move the wagon

[00:00:44] By simply looking at it and whining about it

[00:00:48] Hercules will not help unless you make some effort to help yourself

[00:00:54] And when the farmer put his shoulder to the wheel

[00:00:56] And urged on the horses

[00:00:58] The wagon moved very readily

[00:01:01] And soon the farmer was riding along in great content

[00:01:04] And with a good lesson learned
