The Lion and Albert

[00:00:00] There's a famous seaside place called Blackpool

[00:00:04] That's noted for fresh-air and fun

[00:00:07] And Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom

[00:00:09] Went there with young Albert their son

[00:00:13] A grand little lad was their Albert

[00:00:16] All dressed in his best; quite a swell

[00:00:19] 'E'd a stick with an 'orse's 'ead 'andle

[00:00:22] The finest that Woolworth's could sell

[00:00:26] They didn't think much to the ocean

[00:00:28] The waves they was fiddlin' and small

[00:00:31] There was no wrecks nobody drownded

[00:00:34] 'Fact nothing to laugh at at all

[00:00:37] So seeking for further amusement

[00:00:39] They paid and went into the zoo

[00:00:42] Where they'd lions and tigers and cam-els

[00:00:45] Old ale and sandwiches too

[00:00:49] There were one great big lion called Wallace

[00:00:53] His nose were all covered with scars

[00:00:56] He lay in a som-no-lent posture

[00:00:59] With the side of his face to the bars

[00:01:02] Now Albert had heard about lions

[00:01:05] How they were ferocious and wild

[00:01:08] And to see Wallace lying so peaceful

[00:01:12] Well it didn't seem right to the child

[00:01:16] So straight 'way brave little feller

[00:01:19] Not showing a morsel of fear

[00:01:22] Took 'is stick with the'orse's 'ead 'andle

[00:01:25] And pushed it in Wallace's ear

[00:01:29] You could see that the lion didn't like it

[00:01:32] For giving a kind of a roll

[00:01:34] He pulled Albert inside the cage with 'im

[00:01:38] And swallowed the little lad whole

[00:01:42] Then Pa who had seen the occurrence

[00:01:45] And didn't know what to do next

[00:01:47] Said "Mother Yon lions 'et Albert"

[00:01:51] And Mother said "Eeh I am vexed "

[00:01:55] So Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom

[00:01:58] Quite rightly when all's said and done

[00:02:00] Complained to the Animal Keeper

[00:02:03] That the lion had eaten their son

[00:02:07] The keeper was quite nice about it

[00:02:09] He said "What a nasty mishap

[00:02:12] Are you sure that it's your lad he's eaten "

[00:02:15] And Pa said "Am I sure There's his cap "

[00:02:20] So the manager had to be sent for

[00:02:23] He came and he said "What's to do "

[00:02:26] Pa said "Yon lion's 'eaten our Albert

[00:02:30] And 'im in his Sunday clothes too "

[00:02:34] Then Mother said "Right's right young feller

[00:02:37] I think it's a shame and a sin

[00:02:40] For a lion to go and eat Albert

[00:02:42] And after we've paid to come in "

[00:02:45] The manager wanted no trouble

[00:02:48] He took out his purse right away

[00:02:50] And said "How you much to settle the matter "

[00:02:54] And Pa said "What do you usually pay "

[00:02:59] But Mother had turned a bit awkward

[00:03:01] When she thought where her Albert had gone

[00:03:04] She said "No someone's got to be summonsed"

[00:03:09] So that were decided upon

[00:03:11] Round they went to the Police Station

[00:03:14] In front of a Magistrate chap

[00:03:17] They told 'im what happened to Albert

[00:03:20] And proved it by showing his cap

[00:03:24] The Magistrate gave his o-pinion

[00:03:26] That no-one was really to blame

[00:03:29] Honey said that he hoped the Ramsbottoms

[00:03:32] Would have further sons to their name

[00:03:36] At that Mother got proper blazing

[00:03:40] "And thank you sir kindly " said she

[00:03:44] "What waste all our lives raising children

[00:03:47] To feed ruddy lions Not me "
