Utah Carol

[00:00:00] Utah Carol - Marty Robbins

[00:00:00] Written by:Traditional

[00:00:05] And now my friends you've asked me what makes me sad and still

[00:00:11] And why my brow is darkened like the clouds upon the hill

[00:00:16] Run in your ponies closer and I'll tell to you my tale

[00:00:22] Of Utah Carol my partner and his last ride on the trail

[00:00:28] We rode the range together and rode it side by side

[00:00:33] I loved him like a brother and I wept when Utah died

[00:00:39] We were rounding up one morning when work was almost done

[00:00:45] When on his side the cattle started on a frightened run

[00:00:51] Underneath the saddle that the boss's daughter rode

[00:00:56] Utah that very morning had placed a bright red robe

[00:01:01] So the saddle might ride easy for Lenore his little friend

[00:01:07] And it was this red blanket that brought him to his end

[00:01:13] The blanket was now dragging behind her on the ground

[00:01:19] The frightened cattle saw it and charged it with a bound

[00:01:24] Lenore then saw her danger and turned her pony's face

[00:01:30] And leaning in the saddle tied the blanket to its place

[00:01:35] But in leaning lost her balance fell in front of that wild tide

[00:01:41] Lay still Lenore I'm coming were the words that Utah cried

[00:01:47] His faithful pony saw her and reached her with a bound

[00:01:52] I thought he'd been successful and raised her from the ground

[00:01:58] But the weight upon the saddle had not been felt before

[00:02:04] His back cinch snapped like thunder and he fell by Lenore

[00:02:09] Picking up the blanket he swung it over his head

[00:02:15] And started cross the prairie Lay still Lenore he said

[00:02:20] When he got the stampede turned and saved Lenore his friend

[00:02:26] Then turned to face the cattle and meet his fatal end

[00:02:32] His six gun flashed like lightning the report rang loud and clear

[00:02:37] As the cattle rushed and killed him he dropped the leading steer

[00:02:43] On his funeral morning I heard the preacher say

[00:02:49] I hope we'll all meet Utah at the round up far away

[00:02:54] Then they wrapped him in a blanket that saved his little friend

[00:03:00] And it was this red blanket that brought him to his end
