[00:00:00] 第14期青春励志(14)-英语听力

[00:00:00] Choose Optimism

[00:00:06] If you expect something to turn out badly,

[00:00:10] it probably will.

[00:00:12] Pessimism is seldom disappointed.

[00:00:15] But the same principle also works in reverse.

[00:00:19] If you expect good things to happen,

[00:00:22] they usually do!

[00:00:24] There seems to be a natural

[00:00:25] cause-and-effect relationship

[00:00:28] between optimism and success.

[00:00:31] Optimism and pessimism are both powerful forces,

[00:00:36] and each of us must choose

[00:00:39] which we want to shape our outlook

[00:00:41] and our expectations.

[00:00:44] There's enough good and bad

[00:00:46] in everyone's life

[00:00:48] ample sorrow and happiness,

[00:00:51] sufficient joy and pain

[00:00:53] to find a rational basis

[00:00:55] for either optimism or pessimism.

[00:00:59] We can choose to laugh or cry,

[00:01:02] bless or curse.

[00:01:05] From which perspective do we want to view life?

[00:01:09] Will we look up in hope

[00:01:11] or down in despair?

[00:01:14] It's all about our decision.

[00:01:17] I believe in upward look.

[00:01:20] I choose to highlight the positive

[00:01:22] and slip right over the negative.

[00:01:26] I am an optimist by choice as much as by nature.

[00:01:30] Sure, I know that sorrow exists.

[00:01:35] But when all is said and done,

[00:01:37] the good in life far outweighs the bad.

[00:01:42] An optimistic attitude is not a luxury;

[00:01:45] it's a necessity.

[00:01:48] The way you look at life

[00:01:50] will determine how you feel,

[00:01:52] how you perform,

[00:01:54] and how well you will get along

[00:01:56] with other people.

[00:01:58] Conversely, negative thoughts,

[00:02:01] attitudes, and expectations

[00:02:04] feed on themselves;

[00:02:06] they become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

[00:02:09] Pessimism creates a dismal place

[00:02:12] where no one wants to live.

[00:02:15] Optimism doesn't need to be naive.

[00:02:19] You can be an optimist

[00:02:21] and still recognize that problems exist

[00:02:24] and that some of them are not dealt with easily.

[00:02:28] But what a difference optimism makes

[00:02:30] in the attitude of the problem solver!

[00:02:34] Optimism diverts our attention away from negativism

[00:02:38] and channels it into positive,

[00:02:40] constructive thinking.

[00:02:42] When you're an optimist,

[00:02:44] you're more concerned with problem-solving

[00:02:47] than with useless carping about issues.
