Old Doc Brown

[00:00:00] Old Doc Brown - Johnny Cash (约翰尼·卡什)

[00:00:15]

[00:01:20] He was just an old country doctor

[00:01:21] In a little country town

[00:01:24] Fame and fortune had passed him by

[00:01:26] Though we never saw him frown

[00:01:29] As day by day in his kindly way

[00:01:31] He'd serve us one and all

[00:01:34] Many a patient forgot to pay

[00:01:36] Although Doc's fees were small

[00:01:39] Though he needed his dimes and there were

[00:01:41] Times that he'd receive a fee

[00:01:44] He'd pass it onto some poor soul

[00:01:46] That needed it worse than he

[00:01:49] He had to sell his furniture

[00:01:50] Couldn't pay his office rent

[00:01:53] So to a dusty room over a livery stable

[00:01:56] Doc Brown and his satchel went

[00:01:59] And on the hitchin' post at the kerb below

[00:02:02] To advertise his wares

[00:02:04] He nailed a little sign that read

[00:02:07] "Doc Brown has moved upstairs"

[00:02:10] And one day he didn't answer

[00:02:11] When they knocked upon his door

[00:02:14] Old Doc Brown was layin' down

[00:02:17] But his soul was no more

[00:02:19] They found him there in that old black suit

[00:02:22] On his face was a smile of content

[00:02:25] But all the money they could find on him

[00:02:27] Was a quarter and a copper cent

[00:02:30] So they opened up his ledger

[00:02:32] And what they saw gave their hearts a pull

[00:02:35] Beside each debtor's name old Doc

[00:02:38] Had write these words "Paid in full"

[00:02:43] Old Doc should had

[00:02:44] A funeral fine enough for a king

[00:02:47] It's a ghastly joke our town was broke

[00:02:50] And no one could give a thing

[00:02:52] 'Cept Jones an undertaker

[00:02:54] He did mighty well

[00:02:55] Donated an old iron casket

[00:02:57] He had never been able to sell

[00:02:59] And the funeral procession

[00:03:01] It wasn't much for grace and pomp and the style

[00:03:05] But those wagon loads of mourners

[00:03:08] They stretched out for more than a mile

[00:03:11] We wanted to give him a monument

[00:03:12] We kinda figured we owed him one

[00:03:15] 'Cause he made our town a better place

[00:03:17] For all the good he'd done

[00:03:20] We pulled up that old hitchin' post

[00:03:22] Where Doc had nailed a sign

[00:03:25] We'd painted it white and to all of us

[00:03:28] It certainly did look fine

[00:03:31] Now the rains and the snows

[00:03:33] Have washed away our white trimmin's of paint

[00:03:36] There ain't nothin' left but Doc's own sign

[00:03:39] And that's gettin' pretty faint

[00:03:42] But you can still see that old hitchin' post

[00:03:45] As if in answer to our prayers

[00:03:48] Mutually tellin' the whole wide world

[00:03:51] Doc Brown has moved upstairs
