第12期青春励志(12)

[00:00:00] 第12期青春励志(12)-英语听力

[00:00:06] Dream Will Come True

[00:00:09] The first day of school

[00:00:10] one of my classmates began a talk

[00:00:12] with me that changed my life.

[00:00:15] She said, "Hi, handsome.

[00:00:17] My name is Rose.

[00:00:18] I'm eighty-seven years old."

[00:00:20] "Why are you in college at such an age?"

[00:00:24] I asked.

[00:00:25] "I always dreamed of having a college education

[00:00:28] and now I'm getting one,"

[00:00:30] she told me.

[00:00:32] After class we walked to the student union building

[00:00:35] and shared a chocolate milkshake.

[00:00:37] We became instant friends.

[00:00:40] At the end of the semester we invited Rose

[00:00:43] to speak at our football banquet

[00:00:45] and I'll never forget what she taught us.

[00:00:48] She cleared her throat and began:

[00:00:50] "We do not stop playing because we are old;

[00:00:54] we grow old because we stop playing.

[00:00:56] There are only four secrets to staying young,

[00:01:00] being happy and achieving success.

[00:01:03] You have to laugh and find humor each and every day.

[00:01:07] You've got to have a dream.

[00:01:09] When you lose your dreams, you die.

[00:01:12] We have so many people walking around

[00:01:14] who are dead and they don't even know it.

[00:01:18] There is a giant difference

[00:01:20] between growing older and growing up.

[00:01:23] If you are nineteen years old

[00:01:25] and lie in bed for one full year

[00:01:27] and don't do one productive thing,

[00:01:30] you will turn twenty years old.

[00:01:33] If I am eighty-seven years old

[00:01:36] and stay in bed for a year

[00:01:37] and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

[00:01:41] Anybody can grow older.

[00:01:43] That doesn't take any talent or ability.

[00:01:47] The idea is to grow up by always

[00:01:50] finding the opportunity in change.

[00:01:53] Have no regrets.

[00:01:55] The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did,

[00:01:59] but rather for things we did not do.

[00:02:02] The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

[00:02:06] She concluded her speech

[00:02:08] by courageously singing "The Rose."

[00:02:11] She challenged each of us

[00:02:13] to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

[00:02:18] At year's end,

[00:02:20] Rose finished the college degree

[00:02:22] she had begun all those years ago.

[00:02:24] One week after graduation Rose died

[00:02:27] peacefully in her sleep.

[00:02:29] Over two thousand college students

[00:02:31] attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman

[00:02:34] who taught by example

[00:02:36] that it's never too late to be

[00:02:38] all you can possibly be.
