Feleena

[00:00:00] Feleena - Marty Robbins

[00:00:08] Out in New Mexico many long years ago

[00:00:11] There in a shack on the desert

[00:00:14] One night in a storm

[00:00:19] Amid streaks of lightning and loud desert thunder

[00:00:23] To a young Mexican couple a baby was born

[00:00:30] Just as the baby cried

[00:00:32] Thunder and lightning died

[00:00:34] Moon gave it's light to the world

[00:00:36] And the stars did the same

[00:00:41] Mother and father both proud of the daughter

[00:00:45] That Heaven had sent them

[00:00:47] Feleena was this baby's name

[00:00:53] When she was seventeen

[00:00:55] Bothered by crazy dreams

[00:00:56] She ran away from the shack

[00:00:59] And left them to roam

[00:01:04] Father and mother both asked one another

[00:01:08] What made her run away

[00:01:09] What made Feleena leave home

[00:01:15] Tired of the desert nights

[00:01:17] Fatherly grieved to strife

[00:01:19] She ran away late one night

[00:01:21] In the moon's golden gleam

[00:01:26] She didn't know where

[00:01:28] She'd go but she'd get there

[00:01:30] And she would find happiness

[00:01:32] If she would follow her dream

[00:01:37] After she ran away she went to Santa Fe

[00:01:41] And in the year that she stayed there

[00:01:43] She learned about life

[00:01:48] In just a little while

[00:01:50] She learned that with a smile

[00:01:52] She could have pretty clothes

[00:01:54] She could be any man's wife

[00:02:00] Rich men romanced her

[00:02:01] They dined and they danced her

[00:02:03] She understood men

[00:02:05] And she treated them all just the same

[00:02:10] A form that was fine and rare

[00:02:12] Dark shining glossy hair

[00:02:14] Lovely to look at

[00:02:16] Feleena was this woman's name

[00:02:22] Restless in Santa Fe

[00:02:24] She had to get away

[00:02:26] To any town where

[00:02:27] The lights had a much brighter glow

[00:02:33] One cowboy mentioned the town of El Paso

[00:02:37] They never stopped dancing

[00:02:38] And money like whiskey would flow

[00:02:44] She bought one way a ticket from Santa Fe

[00:02:48] Three days and nights on a stage

[00:02:50] With a rest now and then

[00:02:55] She didn't mind that

[00:02:57] She knew she would find that

[00:02:58] Her new life would be more exciting

[00:03:01] Than where she had been

[00:03:06] The stage made it's last stop

[00:03:08] Up there on the mountain top

[00:03:10] To let her see all the lights

[00:03:12] At the foot of the hill

[00:03:17] Her world was brighter and deep down inside her

[00:03:21] An uncontrolled beating her young heart

[00:03:23] Just wouldn't be still

[00:03:28] She got a hotel room at the Lily Belle

[00:03:32] Quickly she changed to a form

[00:03:34] Fitting black satin dress

[00:03:39] Every man stopped to stare

[00:03:41] At this form fine and rare

[00:03:43] Even the women remarked

[00:03:45] Of the charm she possessed

[00:03:51] Dancing and laughter was what she was after

[00:03:54] And Rosa's Cantina had lights

[00:03:57] With love in the gleam

[00:04:02] That's what she hunted and

[00:04:03] That's what she wanted

[00:04:05] Rosa's was one place

[00:04:07] A nice girl would never be seen

[00:04:12] It was the same way

[00:04:14] It was back in Santa Fe

[00:04:16] Men would make fools of themselves

[00:04:18] At the thought of romance

[00:04:24] Rosa took heed of the place was in need of

[00:04:27] This kind of excitement

[00:04:29] So she paid Feleena to dance

[00:04:34] A year passed and maybe more

[00:04:36] And then through the swinging doors

[00:04:38] Came a young cowboy so tall

[00:04:40] And so handsomely dressed

[00:04:45] This one was new in town

[00:04:47] Hadn't been seen around

[00:04:49] He was so different

[00:04:51] He wasn't like all of the rest

[00:04:56] Feleena danced close to him

[00:04:58] Then threw a rose to him

[00:05:00] Quickly he walked to her table

[00:05:02] And there he sat down

[00:05:07] And in a day or so

[00:05:09] Wherever folks would go

[00:05:11] They'd see this young cowboy

[00:05:13] Showing Feleena the town

[00:05:18] Six weeks he went with her

[00:05:20] Each minute spent with her

[00:05:22] But he was insanely jealous of

[00:05:25] Glances she'd give

[00:05:29] Inside he was a hurting

[00:05:31] From all of her flirting

[00:05:33] That was her nature and

[00:05:35] That was the way that she lived

[00:05:40] She flirted one night it started a gun fight

[00:05:44] And after the smoke cleared away

[00:05:46] On the floor lay a man

[00:05:51] Feleena's young lover had shot down another

[00:05:55] And he had to leave there

[00:05:56] So out through the back door he ran

[00:06:02] The next day at five o'clock

[00:06:04] She heart a rifle shot

[00:06:06] Quickly she ran to the door

[00:06:08] That was facing the pass

[00:06:13] She saw her cowboy her wild riding cowboy

[00:06:17] Low in the saddle her cowboy was riding in fast

[00:06:24] She ran to meet him to kiss and to greet him

[00:06:28] He saw her and motioned

[00:06:30] Her back with a wave of his hand

[00:06:35] Bullets were flying

[00:06:37] Feleena was crying

[00:06:39] As she saw him fall from

[00:06:41] The saddle and into the sand

[00:06:46] Feleena knelt near him to hold and to hear him

[00:06:50] When she felt the warm blood

[00:06:52] That flowed from the wound in his side

[00:06:57] He raised to kiss her and she heard him whisper

[00:07:01] "Never forget me Feleena it's over goodbye"

[00:07:08] Quickly she grabbed for

[00:07:10] The six gun that he wore

[00:07:12] And screaming in anger and

[00:07:14] Placing the gun to her breast

[00:07:19] Bury us both deep and maybe we'll find peace

[00:07:23] And pulling the trigger

[00:07:24] She fell cross the dead cowboy's chest

[00:07:30] Out in El Paso whenever the wind blows

[00:07:34] If you listen closely at night

[00:07:36] You'll hear in the wind

[00:07:41] A woman is crying

[00:07:42] It's not the wind sighing

[00:07:45] Old timer's tell you

[00:07:46] Feleena is calling for him

[00:07:52] You'll hear them talking

[00:07:53] And you'll hear them walking

[00:07:56] You'll hear them laugh

[00:07:57] And you'll look but there's no one around

[00:08:03] Don't be alarmed there is really no harm there

[00:08:06] It's only the young cowboy

[00:08:09] Showing Feleena the town
