Breakfast in Hell(Live)

[00:00:00] Breakfast in Hell (Live) - Slaid Cleaves

[00:00:00] Written by:Slaid Cleaves

[00:00:20] In the melting snows of Ontario

[00:00:22] Where the wind'll make you shiver

[00:00:25] It was the month of May up in Georgian Bay

[00:00:27] Near the mouth of the Musquash River

[00:00:30] Where the bears prowl and the coyotes howl

[00:00:33] And you can hear the osprey scream

[00:00:37] Back in '99 we were cutting pine

[00:00:40] And sending it down the stream

[00:00:44] Young Sandy Gray came to Go Home Bay

[00:00:46] All the way from P.E.I.

[00:00:49] Where the weather's rough and it makes you tough

[00:00:52] No man's afraid to die

[00:00:55] Sandy came a smilin' Thirty Thousand Islands

[00:00:58] Was the place to claim his glory

[00:01:02] Now Sandy's gone but his name lives on

[00:01:05] This is Sandy's story

[00:01:09] Young Sandy Gray lives on today

[00:01:12] In the echoes of a mighty yell

[00:01:15] Listen close and you'll hear a ghost

[00:01:17] In this story that I tell boys

[00:01:20] This story that I tell

[00:01:27] Now Sandy Gray was boss of the men who'd toss

[00:01:30] The trees onto the shore

[00:01:32] They'd come and go till they'd built a floe

[00:01:35] 100000 logs or more

[00:01:38] And he'd ride 'em down toward Severn Sound

[00:01:40] To cut 'em up in the mills for timber

[00:01:44] And the ships would haul spring summer and fall

[00:01:47] Till the ice came in December

[00:01:51] One Sabbath Day big Sandy Gray

[00:01:54] Came into camp with a Peavey on his shoulder

[00:01:56] With a thunder crack he dropped his axe

[00:01:59] And the room got a little bit colder

[00:02:02] Said come on all you we got work to do

[00:02:05] We gotta give 'er all we can give 'er

[00:02:09] There's a jam of logs at the little jog

[00:02:12] Near the mouth of the Musquash River

[00:02:16] With no time to pray on the Lord's day

[00:02:19] They were hoping for God's forgiveness

[00:02:21] But the jam was high in a troubled sky

[00:02:24] And they set out about their business

[00:02:27] They poked with poles and ran with the rolls

[00:02:30] And tried to stay on their feet

[00:02:33] Every trick they tried one man cried

[00:02:37] This logjam's got us beat

[00:02:41] But Sandy Gray was not afraid

[00:02:44] And he let out a mighty yell

[00:02:47] I'll be damned we'll break this jam

[00:02:49] Or it's breakfast in hell boys

[00:02:53] Breakfast in hell

[00:04:54] Now every one of the men did the work of ten

[00:04:57] And Sandy scrambled up to the top

[00:04:59] He is working like a dog heaving 30 foot logs

[00:05:02] And it looked like he'd never stop

[00:05:05] They struggled on these men so strong

[00:05:07] Till the jam began to sway

[00:05:12] Then they dove for cover to the banks of the river

[00:05:14] All except for Sandy Gray

[00:05:24] Now with thoughts of death they held their breath

[00:05:26] As they saw their friend go down

[00:05:30] They all knew in a second or two

[00:05:32] He'd be crushed or frozen or drowned

[00:05:35] They saw him fall and they heard him call

[00:05:37] Just once and then it was over

[00:05:42] Young Sandy Gray gave his life that day

[00:05:44] Near the mouth of the Musquash River

[00:05:49] But Sandy Gray was not afraid

[00:05:51] And he let out a mighty yell

[00:05:54] I'll be damned we'll break this jam

[00:05:57] Or it's breakfast in hell boys

[00:06:01] Breakfast in hell

[00:06:13] East of Giant's Tomb there's plenty of room

[00:06:16] There's no fences and no walls

[00:06:18] And if you listen close you'll hear a ghost

[00:06:21] Down by Sandy Gray Falls

[00:06:24] Through the tops of the trees you'll hear in the breeze

[00:06:27] The echoes of a mighty yell

[00:06:39] I'll be damned we'll break this jam

[00:06:41] Or it's breakfast in hell

[00:06:45] And Sandy Gray lives on today

[00:06:48] And he let out a mighty yell

[00:06:51] I'll be damned we'll break this jam

[00:06:54] Or it's breakfast in hell boys

[00:06:58] Breakfast in hell
