Old Doc Brown

[00:00:00] Old Doc Brown - Johnny Cash (约翰尼·卡什)

[00:00:06] He was just an old country doctor in a little country town

[00:00:10] Fame and fortune had passed him by though we never saw him frown

[00:00:16] As day by day in his kindly way he'd serve us one and all

[00:00:20] Many a patient forgot to pay although Doc's fees were small

[00:00:26] Though he needed his dimes and there were times that he'd receive a fee

[00:00:30] He'd pass it onto some poor soul that needed it worse than he

[00:00:35] He had to sell his furniture couldn't pay his office rent

[00:00:39] So to a dusty room over a livery stable Doc brown and his satchel went

[00:00:45] And on the hitchin' post at the kerb below to advertise his wares

[00:00:50] He nailed a little sign that read Doc brown has moved upstairs

[00:00:56] And one day he didn't answer when they knocked upon his door

[00:01:00] Old Doc brown was layin' down but his soul was no more

[00:01:05] They found him there in that old black suit on his face was a smile

[00:01:09] Of content

[00:01:11] But all the money they could find on him was a quarter

[00:01:14] And a copper cent

[00:01:16] So they opened up his ledger and what they saw gave their hearts a pull

[00:01:22] Beside each debtor's name old Doc had write these words paid in full

[00:01:29] Old Doc should had a funeral fine enough for a king

[00:01:33] It's a ghastly joke our town was broke and no one could give a thing

[00:01:38] Cept jones an undertaker he did mighty well

[00:01:42] Donated an old iron casket he had never been able to sell

[00:01:45] And the funeral procession it wasn't much for grace and pomp and the style

[00:01:51] But those wagon loads of mourners they stretched out for more than a mile

[00:01:57] We wanted to give him a monument we kinda figured we owed him one

[00:02:01] Cause he made our town a better place for all the good he'd done

[00:02:06] We pulled up that old hitchin' post where Doc had nailed a sign

[00:02:11] We'd painted it white and to all of us it certainly did look fine

[00:02:17] Now the rains and the snows have washed away our white trimmin's of paint

[00:02:22] There ain't nothin' left but Doc's own sign and that's gettin' pretty faint

[00:02:28] But you can still see that old hitchin' post as if in answer

[00:02:32] To our prayers

[00:02:34] Mutually tellin' the whole wide world Doc brown has moved upstairs
