On the Via Dolorosa (Narrative)

[00:00:00] We are on the Via Dolorosa the way

[00:00:02] Of the Cross having just left the Praetorium

[00:00:07] Where Pilate said to Christ

[00:00:09] I washed my hands off the matter

[00:00:12] And turned him over to the people

[00:00:13] And told them to do what they would with him

[00:00:16] There's no traffic here the streets's very narrow

[00:00:20] Little children playing along the street

[00:00:23] The street's about ten feet wide

[00:00:25] You see the third station of the Cross

[00:00:28] Where Christ almost fell

[00:00:30] Under the weight of the Cross

[00:00:32] He's kneeling and the fourth station

[00:00:35] Of the Cross over there

[00:00:37] Over forty or fifty feet farther toward Calvary

[00:00:40] Where His mother came up to Him

[00:00:43] And said my Son what's happened

[00:00:48] And she sees Him kneeling

[00:00:49] Under the heavy weight of the Cross too

[00:00:54] Continuing on now toward Calvary

[00:00:56] From the fourth station of the Cross

[00:01:00] We left the Praetorium

[00:01:02] Where Christ was sentenced

[00:01:03] And where he was turned over

[00:01:05] To the Jewish people

[00:01:06] And they were offered Barabbas and they said

[00:01:15] No give us Christ we'll crucify him

[00:01:20] Following along the stations

[00:01:21] Of the Cross passing station No 5

[00:01:25] And they say at this point that Simon

[00:01:30] A Cyrenean coming out of the country

[00:01:34] On him they laid the Cross

[00:01:36] They made him bear it for Jesus

[00:01:38] And they continued on the way

[00:01:41] Of the Cross

[00:01:43] And they continued on the way

[00:01:44] Of the Cross as we are now

[00:01:47] Leaving place No 5 toward Calvary

[00:01:54] It's a long long way from here

[00:01:58] You can see standing here

[00:01:59] Between station No 5 and No 6

[00:02:04] Two hundred yards at least

[00:02:06] Up the steps toward Calvary's hill

[00:02:09] All along it's a very narrow

[00:02:11] Street ten or twelve feet wide

[00:02:13] Shops on each side little children

[00:02:15] Playing old men and women

[00:02:18] Carrying their bread dressed

[00:02:19] In their long robes

[00:02:20] Just as they did two thousand years ago

[00:02:24] The music here in the background

[00:02:33] Is a radio playing

[00:02:36] (is that an Arab station)

[00:02:38] Still continuing up the way

[00:02:40] Of the Cross toward Calvary

[00:02:42] The voices you hear in the background

[00:02:46] Are pilgrims from all over the world

[00:02:50] All along the Via Dolorosa here there are beggars

[00:02:53] (I suppose mostly Arab beggars)

[00:02:58] Passing station No 10 continuing on to Calvary

[00:03:00] They are all along the way

[00:03:02] They say that they are all blind

[00:03:06] They say that the reason

[00:03:07] There are so many blind along

[00:03:09] This part of the country is because of the dust

[00:03:12] Everywhere the wind is blowing

[00:03:15] And the dust is flying

[00:03:16] And of course there are germs

[00:03:18] In the dust that diseases their eyes

[00:03:21] And the dust itself puts them out

[00:03:24] On the way to Calvary

[00:03:26] We pass another beggar sittin' along the way

[00:03:30] All kinds of shops pilgrims continuing

[00:03:33] On the same way we're going

[00:03:46] Now closer to Calvary

[00:03:47] The way really gets crowded

[00:03:51] It's still the same very narrow street though
