[00:00:00] Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Live In New Jersey 14/3/08) - Iron Maiden

[00:00:03] Written by:Steve Harris

[00:00:30] Hear the rime of the ancient mariner

[00:00:32] See his eye as he stops one of three

[00:00:35] Mesmerizes one of the wedding guests

[00:00:36] Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea

[00:00:43] And the music plays on as the bride passes by

[00:00:45] Caught by his spell and the mariner tells his tale

[00:00:51] Driven south to the land of the snow and ice

[00:00:53] To a place where nobody's been

[00:00:55] Through the snow fog flies on the albatross

[00:00:57] Hailed in God's name hoping good luck it brings

[00:01:04] And the ships sails on back to the north

[00:01:06] Through the fog and ice and the albatross follows on

[00:01:37] The mariner kills the bird of good omen

[00:01:42] His shipmates cry against what he's done

[00:01:46] But when the fog clears they justify him

[00:01:50] And make themselves a part of the crime

[00:01:54] Sailing on and on and north across the sea

[00:02:02] Sailing on and on and north 'til all is calm

[00:02:11] The albatross begins with its vengeance

[00:02:15] A terrible curse a thirst has begun

[00:02:19] His shipmates blame bad luck on the mariner

[00:02:24] About his neck the dead bird is hung

[00:02:27] And the curse goes on and on and on at sea

[00:02:35] And the thirst goes on and on for them and me

[00:02:44] Day after day day after day

[00:02:46] We stuck nor breath nor motion

[00:02:48] As idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean

[00:02:52] Water water everywhere and all the boards did shrink

[00:02:57] Water water everywhere nor any drop to drink

[00:03:13] There calls the mariner there comes a ship o'er the line

[00:03:20] But how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide

[00:03:26] See onward she comes

[00:03:32] Onward she nears out of the sun

[00:03:39] See she has no crew

[00:03:44] She has no life wait but there's two

[00:03:51] Death and she life in death they throw their dice for the crew

[00:03:57] She wins the mariner and he belongs to her now

[00:04:03] Then crew one by one they drop down dead two hundred men

[00:04:16] She she life in death she let's him live her chosen one

[00:06:11] One after one by the star dogged moon

[00:06:15] Too quick for groan or sigh

[00:06:18] Each turned his face with a ghastly pang

[00:06:22] And cursed me with his eye

[00:06:26] Four times fifty living men

[00:06:29] And I heard nor sigh nor groan

[00:06:32] With heavy thump a lifeless lump

[00:06:35] They dropped down one by one

[00:08:01] The curse it lives on in their eyes

[00:08:06] The mariner he wished he'd die

[00:08:11] Along with the sea creatures

[00:08:13] But they lived on so did he

[00:08:21] And by the light of the moon

[00:08:25] He prays for their beauty not doom

[00:08:31] With heart he blesses them

[00:08:33] God's creatures all of them too

[00:08:41] Then the spell starts to break

[00:08:45] The albatross falls from his neck

[00:08:50] Sinks down like lead into the sea

[00:08:55] Then down in falls comes the rain

[00:11:24] Hear the groans of the long dead seamen

[00:11:26] See them stir and they start to rise

[00:11:28] Bodies lifted by good spirits

[00:11:30] None of them speak and they're lifeless in their eyes

[00:11:36] And revenge is still sought penance starts again

[00:11:38] Cast into a trance and the nightmare carries on

[00:11:45] Now the curse is finally lifted

[00:11:47] And the mariner sights his home

[00:11:49] Spirits go from the long dead bodies

[00:11:51] Form their own light and the mariner's left alone

[00:12:23] And then a boat came sailing towards him

[00:12:27] It was a joy he could not believe

[00:12:31] The pilot's boat his son and the hermit

[00:12:35] Penance of life will fall onto him

[00:12:39] And the ship sinks like lead into the sea

[00:12:47] And the hermit shrieves the mariner of his sins

[00:12:56] The mariner's bound to tell of his story

[00:13:00] To tell this tale wherever he goes

[00:13:04] To teach God's word by his own example

[00:13:08] That we must love all things that God made

[00:13:12] And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser man

[00:13:20] And the tale goes on and on and on and on
