Old Red

[00:00:00] Old Red - Chris Ledoux

[00:00:04] Old red was one of the orneriest yet I've seen at the big rodeo

[00:00:10] He's bite you and kick you and stomp out your life

[00:00:13] Old red had never been rode

[00:00:17] Meaner than sin wild as the wind that blew on the Montana plain

[00:00:24] Old red was one of the last of his breed

[00:00:27] And wasn't about to be tamed

[00:00:30] From Idaho a young cowboy came to ride in the big rodeo

[00:00:37] The young cowboy's name was Billy McClain and Billy had never been thrown

[00:00:44] The greatest desire filled young Billy's heart

[00:00:47] To ride this old outlaw called red

[00:00:50] He drew him one day and I heard Billy say

[00:00:53] I'll ride him or drop over dead

[00:00:57] Old red was wicked down there in the chute

[00:01:00] He was kicking and stomping about

[00:01:04] Billy dropped into the saddle with ease

[00:01:07] Then yelled turn him loose let us out

[00:01:11] Old red came out with his head on the ground

[00:01:14] His back hooves were touching his nose

[00:01:17] Trying to get rid of the man of his back

[00:01:20] But the man went wherever he'd go

[00:01:29] Billy was raking old red with his spurs

[00:01:32] From his tail to the tip of his chin

[00:01:35] He was doing right well but Billy could tell this outlaw would never give in

[00:01:42] Old red was running straight for the fence suddenly stopped in and then

[00:01:49] He rared on his hind legs

[00:01:50] Then fell on his back taking poor Billy with him

[00:01:56] There was a hush in the crowd

[00:01:58] And they knew this would be Billy's last ride

[00:02:02] The saddle horn crushed Billy's chest

[00:02:05] They fell and under old red Billy died

[00:02:09] Old red lay still no more would he move

[00:02:12] The cowboys that seen it could tell

[00:02:15] In trying to throw Billy off of his back

[00:02:19] Old red broke his neck when he fell

[00:02:22] Out in the west is the place where they rest

[00:02:26] This cowboy that never was thrown

[00:02:29] And one foot away resting there neath the clay

[00:02:32] Is the outlaw that never was rode
