Little Joe The Wrangler

[00:00:10] Little Joe the wrangler he'll wrangle never more

[00:00:14] His days with the remuda they're all done

[00:00:20] It was long about last April he rode into our camp

[00:00:25] Just a little Texas stray and all alone

[00:00:31] It was long late in the evening when he rode into our camp

[00:00:36] On a little old brown pony he called Shaw

[00:00:41] In his brogan shoes and coveralls a harder lookin' kid

[00:00:46] You never in you life have seen before

[00:00:52] His saddle was a Sother kack built many years ago

[00:00:57] An OK spur on one foot idly hung

[00:01:02] With his bed roll in a cotton sack was loosely tied behind

[00:01:07] And a canteen from the saddle horn he'd slung

[00:01:12] Said he had to leave his home because his paw had married twice

[00:01:18] His new maw beat him every day or two

[00:01:22] So he saddled up old Shaw one night and lit a shuck this way

[00:01:28] Thought he'd try and paddle now his own canoe

[00:01:33] Said he'd try to do the best he could if we'd only give him work

[00:01:38] Though he didn't know straight up about a cow

[00:01:43] So the boss he cut him out a mount and kinda put him on

[00:01:48] And we knew he liked our little stray somehow

[00:01:53] Well he taught him how to heard the horses and learned to know 'em all

[00:01:59] And to get 'em in by daylight if he could

[00:02:04] And to follow the chuck wagon and to always hitch the team

[00:02:09] And to help the carsonaro rustle wood

[00:02:15] We had driven to Red River and the weather it was fine

[00:02:20] We were camped down on the south side of the bend

[00:02:25] When a Norther started blowin' we called the extra guard

[00:02:30] Cause it took all hands to hold the cattle in

[00:02:35] Now little Joe the wrangler was called out like the rest

[00:02:40] Barely had the kid got to the heard

[00:02:45] When the cattle they stampeded like a hailstorm on they flew

[00:02:50] With all of us a ridin' for the lead

[00:02:56] Between the streaks of lightnin' we could see a horse ahead

[00:03:00] It was little Joe the wrangler in the lead

[00:03:05] He was riding old Blue Rocket with a slicker o'er his head

[00:03:10] And he's trying to check the leaders in their speed.

[00:03:15] We finally got'em millin' and they sort of quieted down

[00:03:21] The extra guard back to the camp did go

[00:03:26] But one of them was missing and we all knew at a glance

[00:03:30] Twas our little Texas strayboy wrangler Joe

[00:03:36] We found him there at sun up where old Blue Rocket fell

[00:03:42] In some washout twenty feet below

[00:03:46] Beneath his horse smashed to a pulphis spur had rung the knell

[00:03:51] For our little Texas stray bos wrangler Joe

[00:03:56] Little Joe the wrangler he'll wrangle never more

[00:04:01] His days with the remuda they're all done

[00:04:06] It was long about last April he rode into our camp

[00:04:11] Just a little Texas stray and all alone
