《Gus: The Theatre Cat(Cats)》歌词

[00:00:00] Gus the Theatre Cat - The Theatreland Chorus
[00:00:00] Written by:Lloyd Webber/Eliot
[00:00:00] Gus is the cat at the theatre door
[00:00:06] His name as I ought to have told you before
[00:00:13] Is really asparagus but that's such a fuss
[00:00:19] To pronounce that we usually call him
[00:00:25] Just Gus
[00:00:27] His coat's very shabby
[00:00:30] He's thin as a rake
[00:00:33] And he suffers from palsy that makes his paw shake
[00:00:39] Yet he was in his youth quite the smartest of cats
[00:00:46] But no longer a terror to mice or to rats
[00:00:53] For he isn't the cat that he was in his prime
[00:00:59] Though his name was quite famous he says in his time
[00:01:05] And whenever he joins his friends at their club
[00:01:11] Which takes place at the back of the neighbouring pub
[00:01:18] He loves to regale them if someone else pays
[00:01:24] With anecdotes drawn from his palmiest days
[00:01:31] For he once was a star of the highest degree
[00:01:36] He has acted with Irving he's acted with tree
[00:01:43] And he likes to relate his success on the halls
[00:01:49] Where the gallery once gave him seven catcalls
[00:01:55] But his grandest creation as he loves to tell
[00:02:02] Was Firefrorefiddle the fiend of the fell
[00:02:17] I have played in my time every possible part
[00:02:25] And I used to know seventy speeches by heart
[00:02:33] I'd extemporize backchat
[00:02:37] I knew how to gag
[00:02:41] And I knew how to let the cat out of the bag
[00:02:49] I knew how to act with my back and my tail
[00:02:56] With an hour of rehearsal
[00:02:59] I never could fail
[00:03:03] I'd a voice that would soften the hardest of hearts
[00:03:09] Whether I took the lead or in character parts
[00:03:17] I have sat by the bedside of poor little Nell
[00:03:24] When the curfew was rung then I swung on the bell
[00:03:30] In the pantomime season I never fell flat
[00:03:36] And I once understudied dick Whittington's cat
[00:03:42] But my grandest creation
[00:03:46] As history will tell
[00:03:50] Was Firefrorefiddle the fiend of the fell
[00:04:04] Then if someone will give him a toothful of gin
[00:04:09] He will tell how he once played a part in East Lynne
[00:04:14] At a Shakespeare performance he once walked on pat
[00:04:19] When some actor suggested the need for a cat
[00:04:25] And I say now these kittens
[00:04:28] They do not get trained
[00:04:30] As we did in the days when Victoria reigned
[00:04:36] They never get drilled in a regular troupe
[00:04:41] And they think they are smart
[00:04:44] Just to jump through a hoop
[00:04:48] And he says as he scratches himself with his claws
[00:04:54] Well the theatre is certainly not what it was
[00:05:00] These modern productions are all very well
[00:05:07] But there's nothing to equal from what I hear tell
[00:05:13] That moment of mystery when I made history
[00:05:23] As Firefrorefiddle the fiend of the fell
