[00:01:20] Mama and daddy sacrificed cause this christmas was lean

[00:01:25] But after all there was the babies tom and joanne babies need a few things

[00:01:33] I whittled a whistle for my brother jack and though we fought now and then

[00:01:38] When I gave jack that whistle he knew I thought the world of him

[00:01:45] Mama made the girl's dresses out of flower sacks

[00:01:49] And when she ironed them down you couldn't tell that they hadn't come from town

[00:01:56] A sharecropped family across the road didn't have it as good as us

[00:02:02] They didn't even have a light and it was way past dusk

[00:02:08] And mama said well I bet they don't even have coaloil or beans to boil

[00:02:15] A log apples cranges and such

[00:02:21] Me and jack took a jar of coaloil nd some hickernuts we'd found

[00:02:26] We walked to the sharecropper's porch and set 'em down

[00:02:31] A poor old ragged lady eased open the door

[00:02:35] She picked up the coaloil and hickernuts and said

[00:02:39] I sure do thank ye and quickly closed the door

[00:02:45] We started back home me and jack and about halfway we stopped looked back

[00:02:53] And in the sharecropper's window at last was a light

[00:02:58] So for one of the neighbors and for us it was a good christmas night

[00:03:06] Christmas came and christmas went christmas that year was heaven sent

[00:03:11] Then daddy put on his gumboots waited for the thaw back home in dyess arkansas
