Folk Monologue/Value (Live)

[00:00:00] Barbra Streisand

[00:00:00] Folk Monologue Value

[00:00:01] Can I get my glass of tea Mmm nothing like it

[00:00:13] At this time I would like very much to do a Folksong Since Folksongs

[00:00:20] I think are still popular today Uhm this one is in Latvian and it's

[00:00:29] From Latvia And it's about this Tahitian girl who uhm had this lover

[00:00:39] And then one day this lover decides that he doesn't like her anymore

[00:00:43] And likes her sister better So she decided that the only thing to do

[00:00:48] Naturally was to kill herself see So one day oh was very nice out

[00:00:55] About 75 degrees and she was taking this walk down to the river to

[00:01:02] Drown when she she tripped over this rock see And uhm oh it was

[00:01:10] Awful I mean she broke her glasses she scrapped her knees And uhm

[00:01:15] Just at this minute the lover and the sister happen to come by in a

[00:01:19] Taxicab So see they saw her on the floor and she having an

[00:01:25] Astigmatism in her left eye she thought that it was a wild bore So

[00:01:32] She figured oh boy I'd better get down to the river fast to drown so

[00:01:36] She runs down there and what do you know the river was frozen So I

[00:01:43] Mean she just stood there you know and she went tchhh like that Tch

[00:01:50] And uhm because I mean she couldn't do it that day See it was a

[00:01:55] Small town they only had one river so Anyway than she figured oh

[00:02:00] It's getting late better get home cause her mamma would be worried

[00:02:02] And would kill her if she was late for supper you know So I mean

[00:02:06] She gets up and she starts walking around home and she bumps in to

[00:02:11] This guy and what do you know he turns out to be an optometrist

[00:02:18] And just happens to happen to have her 'suscription' So anyway uh

[00:02:27] Oh I'm sorry 'suBscription' So anyway I mean she's I don't want

[00:02:35] You to think that this is one of those Hollywood like stories:She

[00:02:38] Gets the glasses and sees happily ever after I mean this is you

[00:02:41] Know no like that I mean she had to pay for the glasses just like

[00:02:45] You and me she well oh well I mean I don't want you to think

[00:02:49] That I'm lying but she did get about a dollar fifty off dollar

[00:02:51] Sixty five So anyway uhm this guy

[00:02:56] Oh

[00:02:58] Turned out to be very

[00:03:00] Nice and he even told her where she could find another river

[00:03:04] So I'll tell you the truth this girl was a real creep I mean

[00:03:12] You know who would wanna sing a song about her I mean her sister

[00:03:16] Was really much nicer And uhm I mean I I think she came from

[00:03:19] A better family

[00:03:23] Call me a boob

[00:03:25] Call me a schlemiel

[00:03:28] Call me a brain with a missing wheel

[00:03:30] Call me what you will

[00:03:32] But nonetheless I'm still

[00:03:33] In love with Harold Mingert

[00:03:38] It's not because he has a car

[00:03:41] Arnie Fleisher has a car

[00:03:43] And a car is just a car

[00:03:44] But if Harold didn't have a car too his name

[00:03:47] I guess I'd love him just the same

[00:03:52] Call me what you will

[00:03:53] But nonetheless I'm still

[00:03:54] In love with Harold Mingert

[00:03:56] And it's not because he has a wealthy family

[00:03:59] Arnie Fleischer has a wealthy family

[00:04:01] But money isn't everything

[00:04:03] And if Harold didn't have a car too his name

[00:04:06] I know I'd love him just the same

[00:04:11] But sometimes I ask myself why than

[00:04:14] Do I than love Harold Mingert

[00:04:16] Harold isn't handsome or clever or smart

[00:04:18] And I don't find romance and a dance in his heart

[00:04:21] The only answers I can think about

[00:04:25] Harold Mingert's money and Harold Mingert's car

[00:04:28] Call me what you will

[00:04:30] But non the less I'm still

[00:04:31] In love with Harold Mingert

[00:04:35] Also Arnie Fleisher
