Old Red

[00:00:01] Old Red - Marty Robbins

[00:00:02] Written by:M. Robbins

[00:00:04] Old Red was one of the onriest yet

[00:00:08] I'd seen at the big rodeo

[00:00:12] He'd bite you and kick you and stomp out your life

[00:00:16] Old Red had never been rode

[00:00:20] Meaner than sin wild as the wind

[00:00:23] That blew on the Montana plains

[00:00:27] Old Red was one of the last of his breed

[00:00:31] Wasn't about to be tamed

[00:00:35] From Idaho a young cowboy came

[00:00:39] To ride in the big rodeo

[00:00:42] The young cowboy's name was Billy McLain

[00:00:46] And Billy had never been thrown

[00:00:50] The greatest desire filled young Billy's heart

[00:00:54] To ride this old outlaw called Red

[00:00:58] He drew him one day and I heard Billy say

[00:01:01] I'll ride him or drop over dead

[00:01:06] Old Red was wicked down there in the shoot

[00:01:09] He was kickin' and stompin' about

[00:01:13] Billy climbed into the saddle with ease

[00:01:17] Then yelled turn 'em loose let us out

[00:01:21] Old Red came out with his head on the ground

[00:01:24] His back hooves were touchin' his nose

[00:01:28] Tryin' to get rid of the man on his back

[00:01:32] But the man went wherever he'd go

[00:01:36] Billy was rackin' Old Red with his spurs

[00:01:39] From the tail to the tip of his chin

[00:01:43] He was doin' right well but Billy could tell

[00:01:47] This outlaw would never give in

[00:01:51] Old Red was runnin' straight for the fence

[00:01:55] Suddenly stoppin' and then

[00:01:58] He reared on his hind legs then fell on his back

[00:02:02] Takin' poor Billy with him

[00:02:06] There was a hush in the crowd and they knew

[00:02:10] This would be Billy's last ride

[00:02:13] The saddle horn crushed Billy's chest when they fell

[00:02:17] And under Old Red Billy died

[00:02:21] Old Red lay still no more would he move

[00:02:25] The cowboys that seen it could tell

[00:02:29] In trying to throw Billy off his back

[00:02:32] Old Red broke his neck when he fell

[00:02:36] Out in the west is the place where they rest

[00:02:40] This cowboy that never was thrown

[00:02:44] And one foot away restin' there neath the clay

[00:02:47] Is the outlaw that never was rode
