Nightmare #5(Album Version)

[00:00:00] Nightmare #5 (Album Version) - Al Kooper

[00:00:02] Written by:Al Kooper

[00:00:13] I was sixteen years of age when I fled my familys house

[00:00:19] And I hitchhiked down the highway

[00:00:22] Trying to make my way down south

[00:00:26] It was in the dead of winter and it chilled me to the bone

[00:00:32] But I was sixteen years of age

[00:00:35] Just trying to get a message home

[00:00:43] It was cold and it was windy and I was two days in my flight

[00:00:49] And my shoes were almost wore through

[00:00:52] And the day was almost night

[00:00:55] When the only car I saw that day came rolling into view

[00:01:02] I just ran onto the highway for to see what I could do

[00:01:13] I waved my arms and hollered and the car it did slow down

[00:01:19] And I asked the man inside to help me

[00:01:22] For to get to the very next town

[00:01:25] He nodded yes and I jumped inside

[00:01:28] I was thankful safe and warm

[00:01:32] But the stranger kept his eyes ahead

[00:01:35] And drove straight into the storm

[00:01:50] I guess I musta fell asleep but I couldn't tell how long

[00:01:56] When I woke up in a hurry with the feel of something wrong

[00:02:02] The stranger was still driving and he did not say a word

[00:02:08] And I asked him many questions

[00:02:12] But he seemed not to have heard

[00:02:26] Then fear began to grab me and I reached out for the door

[00:02:32] When I almost had it open

[00:02:35] Well the car began to soar

[00:02:39] As it angled towards the heavens

[00:02:42] I just tried to catch my breath

[00:02:45] For it was then I knew what time it was

[00:02:48] And the strangers name was death
