Sound Museum

[00:00:00] Sound Museum - Ken Nordine

[00:00:06] Right Now

[00:00:07] Before we go anyplace else

[00:00:10] I want you to go with me to a special place that I know

[00:00:15] It's a museum

[00:00:17] But it isn't an ordinary museum

[00:00:23] It's a very abstract museum in

[00:00:25] Which they show sound paintings

[00:00:30] If you can say that you show sound

[00:00:33] But I don't see why you can't

[00:00:38] But here we are in this corridor

[00:00:42] Some of the most beautiful works of art are here

[00:00:48] Here's one right here

[00:00:50] This is by a very fine young artist

[00:00:55] Here let me turn it on

[00:01:21] That sold for two thousand dollars

[00:01:24] Makes a lot of money actually

[00:01:26] Doing these things

[00:01:28] But now I'd like to turn your

[00:01:29] Attention to this work by an artist who is a

[00:01:36] World War One veteran

[00:01:39] Actually I don't feet that this for me

[00:01:44] Says what he intended itto say

[00:01:49] And yet there are those

[00:01:50] Who listen to it and it says a great deal to them

[00:01:55] Well here I'll turn it on and you'll see what I mean

[00:02:02] You can see that he uses limited color range

[00:02:09] Of course that's

[00:02:09] Understandable

[00:02:14] I'm glad that it's here though

[00:02:17] But enough of that lets go on to

[00:02:20] The next work I want you to see

[00:02:23] Now this is a sound painting

[00:02:25] That is indicative of the neurotic

[00:02:29] Feeling of our time

[00:02:32] The artist is very young shows great promise

[00:02:37] And I'm glad that the work is

[00:02:39] Exhibited here

[00:02:41] Let me turn this painting on

[00:03:05] I think you can see my point

[00:03:09] Now the artist that did this fortunately is

[00:03:14] Under seditives at the

[00:03:15] Moment and we expect that his later

[00:03:18] Work will be much calmer and quieter

[00:03:25] But we do like to give these young neurotic artists a chance

[00:03:33] And so I'm glad that the museum has been big

[00:03:40] About the whole thing if it were

[00:03:42] But lets go on because there's one work here

[00:03:49] That's been done by Jonnes

[00:03:52] Cunningham

[00:03:56] This is a professer from another country

[00:04:00] Actually but his work is reveared

[00:04:02] Here

[00:04:04] We have quite a few of his works

[00:04:06] But this particular one I want you to

[00:04:08] Listen to very carefully

[00:04:09] Because it has an exquisite sense of rythym

[00:04:16] This is a young man who has six children

[00:04:19] And it's amazing to me that he can

[00:04:21] Turn out this kind of

[00:04:22] Work at home with the children around

[00:04:28] But he says that they help him

[00:04:31] If you'll read it

[00:04:32] Cunningham says dedicated to my six children

[00:04:37] Well here I'll turn it on and you can hear it for yourself

[00:05:26] It's just beutiful

[00:05:45] Yes that is one work

[00:05:47] That the museum should well be proud of

[00:05:53] However I would like to have you come with me now

[00:05:58] And we'll open this black

[00:06:01] Door at the end of

[00:06:02] The corridor here

[00:06:05] I won't be able to keep it open very long

[00:06:09] And I think you'll understand why

[00:06:11] Here I'll open it like this just a crack and you listen

[00:06:29] See what I mean

[00:06:31] I'll close the door

[00:06:34] There's a reason it's black

[00:06:37] Here let me open up this door

[00:06:41] It's just covered with beautiful colors

[00:06:45] And we'll hear what's on the other side of this door
