第7期Passage3

[00:00:00] 第7期Passage3-英语听力

[00:00:00] At major college or high school sports events, cheerleaders,

[00:00:04] both male and female, jump and dance in front of the crowd,

[00:00:08] and shout the name of their team, running around and yelling

[00:00:12] "Go, team, Go".

[00:00:14] The first cheerleader ever was a man.

[00:00:17] In 1898, John Campbell jumped in front of the crowd at the

[00:00:21] University of Minnesota and shouted for his team.

[00:00:26] He shouted "Hoorah, Minnesota".

[00:00:29] This was the first organized shout, or yell.

[00:00:33] For the next 32 years cheerleaders were men only.

[00:00:38] Cheerleading is not just about cheering.

[00:00:40] They practice special shouts, dances, and athletic shows.

[00:00:45] The men throw the women high in the air and catch them.

[00:00:49] The team members climb on each other's shoulders to make

[00:00:52] a human pyramid.

[00:00:54] They yell and dance, too.

[00:00:56] It is like human fireworks.

[00:00:58] Of course, they may often suffer serious knee and wrist

[00:01:02] injuries, and bloody noses.

[00:01:05] Cheerleaders have their own contests every year at local,

[00:01:09] state and national levels.

[00:01:12] And the crowd shouts for them.

[00:01:14] It is not fair to think cheerleading is just being cheerful

[00:01:17] and lively and having a loud voice.

[00:01:21] Cheerleading is a sport in itself.
