Introduction To ”Hobo Bill”(Live)(2001 Digital Remaster)

[00:00:00] The hobo was a subject that the late

[00:00:02] And great Jimmie Rogers

[00:00:03] Sang of many times during his great career

[00:00:06] And the freight train served a faithful

[00:00:08] Means of travel for the migrant worker

[00:00:10] Or for the fella out of work or some ole boy

[00:00:12] That just wanted to live off

[00:00:13] The fat of our great land

[00:00:16] And of course at this time

[00:00:17] The fat was kind a scarce

[00:00:20] Because during the period of Jimmie Rodger's

[00:00:21] Greatest popularity

[00:00:23] Our great Nation's economy was at all time low

[00:00:27] And it was known as the depression days

[00:00:31] During this time

[00:00:32] It wasn't unusual to see 50 or 75 hobos

[00:00:36] Jump from a moving freight train

[00:00:37] As it neared the edge of a city

[00:00:40] This was dangerous

[00:00:41] But it was done to keep from

[00:00:42] Being caught by the

[00:00:43] Train bulls that worked

[00:00:44] The great freight yards during this era

[00:00:47] A lot of the hobos

[00:00:48] Were respectable men and rode the rods

[00:00:50] Because it provided a dependable

[00:00:51] Means of travel which they could afford

[00:00:55] And some of them made their destinations

[00:00:57] And some of them died alongthe tracks

[00:01:00] And their friends and family never knew

[00:01:01] What happened to 'em

[00:01:03] And I would imagine maybe that Hobo Bill

[00:01:05] Was one of them
