[00:00:06] About a soldier boy and a deck of cards

[00:00:20] During the North African campaign

[00:00:21] A bunch of soldier

[00:00:22] Boys had been on a long hike

[00:00:24] And they arrived in a little town called Casino

[00:00:27] The next morning being Sunday

[00:00:28] Several of the boys went to church

[00:00:31] A sergeant commanded the boys in church

[00:00:33] And after the Chaplin had read the prayer

[00:00:35] The text was taken up next

[00:00:36] Those of the boys

[00:00:38] Who had a prayer book took them out

[00:00:40] But this one boy only had a deck of card

[00:00:42] And so he spread them out

[00:00:44] The sergeant saw the cards and said

[00:00:46] Soldier put away those cards

[00:00:48] After the services were over the soldier

[00:00:50] Was taken prisoner and was taken before

[00:00:52] The provost marshal

[00:00:54] The marshal said sergeant

[00:00:55] “Why have you brought this man here ”

[00:00:58] “For playing cards in church Sir ”

[00:00:59] “And what do you have to say for yourself son ”

[00:01:02] “Much Sir” replied the soldier

[00:01:04] The Marshal said

[00:01:04] “I hope for if not

[00:01:05] I shall punish you more

[00:01:06] Than any man was ever punished ”

[00:01:09] The soldier said “

[00:01:10] Sir I have been on a march for six days

[00:01:13] And I had neither bible or prayer book

[00:01:15] But I hope to satisfy you

[00:01:16] Sir with the purity of my intentions ”

[00:01:19] With that the boy started his story

[00:01:23] You see sir when I see the Ace

[00:01:24] It reminds me that there is but one God

[00:01:27] And the deuce reminds

[00:01:28] Me the bible is divided into two parts

[00:01:30] The Old and the New Testament

[00:01:33] And when I see the three

[00:01:34] I think of the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost

[00:01:37] When I see the four

[00:01:39] I think of the four

[00:01:40] Evangelists who preached the gospel

[00:01:41] There was Mathew

[00:01:42] Mark Luke and John

[00:01:44] And when I see the five it reminds me

[00:01:46] Of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps

[00:01:49] There were ten of them

[00:01:50] Five were wise and were saved and five were

[00:01:53] Foolish and were shut out

[00:01:56] And when I see the six it reminds me

[00:01:58] That in six days

[00:01:59] God made this great heaven and earth

[00:02:01] And when I see the seven

[00:02:03] It reminds me that on the seventh day God

[00:02:05] Rested from his great work

[00:02:07] And when I see the eight

[00:02:08] I think of the eight righteous people

[00:02:09] God saved when he destroyed this earth

[00:02:13] There was Noah his wife

[00:02:14] Their three sons and their wives

[00:02:17] And when I think of the nine

[00:02:18] I think of the leapers our savior

[00:02:20] Cleansed and nine of the

[00:02:22] Ten didn't even thank him

[00:02:24] When I see the ten

[00:02:25] I think of the ten commandments

[00:02:26] God handed down to Moses on a table of stone

[00:02:29] When I see the king

[00:02:31] It reminds me that there is but one king in heaven

[00:02:34] God all Mighty And when I see the queen

[00:02:37] I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary

[00:02:38] Who is queen of heaven

[00:02:39] And the Jack or knave is the Devil

[00:02:41] When I count the number of spots of

[00:02:43] A deck of cards I find three hundred

[00:02:46] And sixty five the number of days in a year

[00:02:49] There are fifty-two cards

[00:02:50] The number of weeks in a year

[00:02:52] There's four suits

[00:02:53] The number of weeks in a month

[00:02:54] There's twelve picture cards

[00:02:56] The number of months in a year

[00:02:58] There are thirteen tricks

[00:02:59] The number of weeks in a quarter

[00:03:01] So you see Sir

[00:03:02] My deck of cards serves me as a Bible

[00:03:05] Almanac and prayer book

[00:03:08] And friends

[00:03:09] This story is true I knew bcause

[00:03:12] I was that soldier
