The Death of Emmett Till

[00:00:00] The Death of Emmett Till (提尔之死) - Bob Dylan (鲍勃·迪伦)

[00:00:10] 'Twas down in Mississippi not so long ago

[00:00:18] When a young boy from Chicago town

[00:00:23] Stepped through a Southern door

[00:00:27] This boy's dreadful tragedy I can still remember well

[00:00:35] The color of his skin was black and his name was Emmett Till

[00:00:46] Some men they dragged him to a barn and there they beat him up

[00:00:54] They said they had a reason but I can't remember what

[00:01:03] They tortured him and did some evil things too evil to repeat

[00:01:11] There was screaming sounds inside the barn

[00:01:15] There was laughing sounds out on the street

[00:01:22] Then they rolled his body down a gulf amidst a bloody red rain

[00:01:30] And they threw him in the waters wide to cease his screaming pain

[00:01:38] The reason that they killed him there

[00:01:42] And I'm sure it ain't no lie

[00:01:47] Was just for the fun of killin' him and to watch him slowly die

[00:01:57] And then to stop the United States of yelling for a trial

[00:02:05] Two brothers they confessed that they had killed poor Emmett Till

[00:02:13] But on the jury there were men who helped the brothers commit this awful crime

[00:02:21] And so this trial was a mockery but nobody seemed to mind

[00:02:32] I saw the morning papers but I could not bear to see

[00:02:41] The smiling brothers walkin' down the courthouse stairs

[00:02:48] For the jury found them innocent and the brothers they went free

[00:02:56] While Emmett's body floats the foam of a Jim Crow southern sea

[00:03:06] If you can't speak out against this kind of thing

[00:03:11] A crime that's so unjust

[00:03:15] Your eyes are filled with dead men's dirt

[00:03:19] Your mind is filled with dust

[00:03:23] Your arms and legs they must be in shackles and chains

[00:03:27] And your blood it must refuse to flow

[00:03:31] For you let this human race fall down so God-awful low

[00:03:41] This song is just a reminder to remind your fellow man

[00:03:49] That this kind of thing still lives today in that ghost-robed Ku Klux Klan

[00:03:57] But if all of us folks that thinks alike

[00:04:01] If we gave all we could give

[00:04:05] We could make this great land of ours a greater place to live
