Believe It Or Not(1996 Digital Remaster)

[00:00:00] Believe It Or Not (1996 Digital Remaster) - Slim Dusty (西林·得斯提)

[00:00:19] He was a gun shearer a ringer of sheds

[00:00:21] Who had come to the end of his run

[00:00:24] So he let out a yell

[00:00:25] And threw down his blade

[00:00:26] The last of his ten had been done

[00:00:30] Then he went to the office

[00:00:31] And asked for his cheque

[00:00:32] And the manager paid him in cash

[00:00:35] Then he rolled up his blanket

[00:00:36] And started for home

[00:00:37] 'Ere he gambled at cards and got rash

[00:00:43] He camped for the night

[00:00:44] 'Neath some trees by the road

[00:00:45] Away from the cold and the damp

[00:00:48] When a swagman came out of the ev'nin' dusk

[00:00:50] And started to make up his camp

[00:00:54] Come and join me old timer the shearer said

[00:00:57] I've tucker enough here for two

[00:00:59] All my tucker bag's light

[00:01:00] The old feller said

[00:01:02] Thanks boy don't mind if I do

[00:01:20] When the meal was finished

[00:01:21] They started to talk

[00:01:22] In the way that travellers do

[00:01:24] An' the old feller said

[00:01:25] You been travellin' long

[00:01:27] Your gear an' your blankets look new

[00:01:30] No I'm not on the track the shearer said

[00:01:33] I'm a shearer just finished my run

[00:01:35] An' I've five hundred dollars

[00:01:37] In this here purse

[00:01:37] Just to prove that my job has been done

[00:01:41] Oooooh five hundred dollars

[00:01:43] The old feller said

[00:01:44] That's a lot of money me son

[00:01:46] There's many a man been murdered for less

[00:01:49] Buried some place on the run

[00:01:52] Then he went to his swag

[00:01:53] And took out a knife

[00:01:55] And also a sharpening stone

[00:01:57] As he sharpened the edge

[00:01:59] An' he looked up and said

[00:02:00] You should never have travelled alone

[00:02:06] Oh the shearer thought what a fool he'd been

[00:02:08] To open his mouth so wide

[00:02:11] He was sure

[00:02:11] The old man would wait 'til he slept

[00:02:13] An' then bury that knife in his hide

[00:02:17] So he lay in his blanket an' waited to hear

[00:02:19] The sound as the swagman slept

[00:02:22] When he heard the first snore

[00:02:23] He slipped out of bed

[00:02:24] Into the darkness he crept

[00:02:28] That he hadn't gone far

[00:02:29] When he thought he could hear

[00:02:31] Footsteps not far at the back

[00:02:33] So he quickened his pace

[00:02:34] From a walk to a trot

[00:02:36] The footsteps kept pounding the track

[00:02:42] At last he was running flat out in the dark

[00:02:44] From fear he was almost blind

[00:02:47] An' the faster he went the faster they came

[00:02:49] Those footsteps padding behind

[00:02:55] Then he stumbled and fell

[00:02:56] With a terrible thud

[00:02:58] 'Cross a log that lay on the track

[00:03:00] As he lay there gasping and fancin'

[00:03:02] He felt the point of that knife in his back

[00:03:06] And there he trembled with energy spent

[00:03:09] An' he knew that his race had been run

[00:03:11] When the swagman fell over the log at his side

[00:03:14] An' whispered who's after us son

[00:03:17] Well the shearer heaved a great sigh of relief

[00:03:20] An' said no one is after us dad

[00:03:22] Well if no one's chasin' the old feller said

[00:03:25] What the hell are we runnin' fur lad
