[00:00:00] Legend Of Wooley Swamp - The Charlie Daniels Band

[00:00:01] Written by:Daniels Charlie/Digregorio William j./Crain John/Edwards Fred/Hayward Charles Fred/Marshall James W.

[00:00:27] Well if you ever go back into wooley swamp

[00:00:30] Well you better not go at night

[00:00:32] There's things out there in the middle of them woods

[00:00:35] That'd make a strong man die from fright

[00:00:38] Things that crawl and things that fly

[00:00:40] Things that creep around on the ground

[00:00:42] And they say the ghost of lucius clay gets up and he walks around

[00:00:47] But I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself

[00:00:52] And I couldn't conceive it I never would listen to nobody else

[00:00:57] And I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself

[00:01:03] There's some things in this world you just can't explain

[00:01:11] Old man lived in the wooley swamp way back in booger woods

[00:01:15] And he never did do a lot of harm in the world

[00:01:18] He just never did do no good

[00:01:21] People didn't think too much of him

[00:01:23] They all thought he acted funny

[00:01:25] The old man didn't care about people anyway

[00:01:27] All he cared about was his money

[00:01:30] He'd stuff it all down into mason jars and bury it all around

[00:01:35] But on certain nights if the moon was right

[00:01:38] He'd dig it up out of the ground

[00:01:40] Then he'd pour it all out on the floor of his shack

[00:01:42] And he'd run his fingers through it

[00:01:45] Yeah lucius clay was a greedy old man

[00:01:47] And that's all there ever was to it

[00:01:54] But I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself

[00:01:59] And I couldn't conceive it cause never would listen to nobody else

[00:02:04] And I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself

[00:02:10] There's some things in this world you just can't explain

[00:02:18] The cable boys were white trash they lived over on carver's creek

[00:02:23] They were mean as a snake and sneaky as a cat

[00:02:25] And belligerent when they'd speak

[00:02:28] One night the oldest brother said ya'll meet me in the wooley swamp later

[00:02:33] We'll take old lucius' money and we'll feed him to the alligators

[00:02:38] Then the old man out in the back with a shovel in his hand

[00:02:43] And thirteen rusty mason jars he'd just dug up out of the sand

[00:02:48] Then they all went crazy and they beat the old man

[00:02:50] And they picked him up off the ground

[00:02:53] Then they threw him in the swamp and they stood there and laughed

[00:02:55] As the black water sucked him down

[00:02:58] And then they turned around and went back to the shack

[00:03:00] Picked up the money and ran

[00:03:03] Hadn't gone nowhere when they realized

[00:03:05] That they were running in quicksand

[00:03:07] And they struggled and they screamed but they couldn't get away

[00:03:10] And just before they went under

[00:03:13] They could hear that old man laughing

[00:03:14] In a voice as loud as thunder

[00:03:18] That's been fifty years ago an' if you go by there yet

[00:03:23] There's a spot in the yard in the back of that shack

[00:03:25] Where the ground is always wet

[00:03:28] And on certain nights if the moon is right

[00:03:30] Down by that dark footpath

[00:03:33] You can hear three young men screaming

[00:03:35] And you can hear one old man laugh

[00:03:38] If you ever go back into wooley swamp well you better not go at night

[00:03:42] There's things out there in the middle of them woods

[00:03:45] That'd make a strong man die from fright

[00:03:48] Things that crawl and things that fly

[00:03:50] Things that creep around on the ground

[00:03:52] And they say the ghost of lucius clay gets up and he walks around

[00:03:56] But I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself

[00:04:02] And I couldn't conceive it I never would listen to nobody else

[00:04:07] And I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself

[00:04:12] There's some things in this world you just can't explain

[00:04:17] There's some things in this world you just can't explain
