The Elements

[00:00:00] The Elements - Tom Lehrer

[00:00:00] Now if I may digress momentarily from the mainstream of this

[00:00:04] Evening's symposium

[00:00:05] I'd like to

[00:00:07] Sing a song which is completely pointless

[00:00:10] But is something which I picked up during my career

[00:00:13] As a scientist

[00:00:14] This may prove useful to some of you some day

[00:00:16] Perhaps in a somewhat bizarre set of circumstances

[00:00:20] It's simply the names of the chemical elements

[00:00:22] Set to a possibly recognizable tune

[00:00:34] There's antimony arsenic aluminum selenium

[00:00:36] And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium

[00:00:38] And nickel neodymium neptunium germanium

[00:00:40] And iron americium ruthenium uranium

[00:00:42] Europium zirconium lutetium vanadium

[00:00:44] And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium

[00:00:46] And gold protactinium and indium and gallium

[00:00:48] And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium

[00:00:52] There's yttrium ytterbium actinium rubidium

[00:00:54] And boron gadolinium niobium iridium

[00:00:56] And strontium and silicon and silver and samarium

[00:00:58] And bismuth bromine lithium beryllium and barium

[00:01:04] Isn't that interesting

[00:01:08] I knew you would

[00:01:10] I hope you're all taking notes

[00:01:12] Because there's going

[00:01:12] To be a short quiz next period

[00:01:15] There's holmium and helium and hafnium and erbium

[00:01:17] And phosphorus and francium and fluorine and terbium

[00:01:19] And manganese and mercury molybdenum magnesium

[00:01:21] Dysprosium and scandium and cerium and cesium

[00:01:23] And lead praseodymium and platinum plutonium

[00:01:25] Palladium promethium potassium polonium

[00:01:27] And tantalum technetium titanium tellurium

[00:01:30] And cadmium and calcium and chromium and curium

[00:01:34] There's sulfur californium and fermium berkelium

[00:01:36] And also mendelevium einsteinium nobelium

[00:01:38] And argon krypton neon radon xenon zinc and rhodium

[00:01:40] And chlorine carbon cobalt copper tungsten tin and sodium

[00:01:44] These are the only ones of which

[00:01:46] The news has come to Harvard

[00:01:48] And there may be many others

[00:01:49] But they haven't been discovered

[00:02:05] Now may I have the next slide please
