《Trip To Hyden》歌词

[00:00:00] Trip To Hyden - Tom T. Hall
[00:00:06] Tossed and turned the night
[00:00:08] Before in some old motel
[00:00:12] Subconsciously recallin'
[00:00:14] Some old sinful thing I'd done
[00:00:18] My buddy drove the car
[00:00:20] And those big coal trucks shook us up
[00:00:23] As we drove on into Hyden
[00:00:25] In the early morning sun
[00:00:29] Past the hound dogs
[00:00:31] And some domineckered chickens
[00:00:34] Temporary-lookin' houses
[00:00:37] With their lean and bashful kids
[00:00:41] Every hundred yards a sign proclaimed
[00:00:44] That Christ was coming soon
[00:00:46] And I thought, "Well, man,
[00:00:47] He'd sure be disappointed if he did."
[00:00:52] On the way we talked about the 40 miners
[00:00:57] Of the 39 who died and one who lived
[00:01:01] To tell the tale
[00:01:04] We stopped for beans and cornbread
[00:01:06] At the Ed & Lois Cafe
[00:01:09] Then went to see the sherrif
[00:01:11] At the Leslie County Jail
[00:01:16] They took us to the scene
[00:01:18] Of that disaster
[00:01:20] I was so surprised to not find any sign
[00:01:24] Of death at all
[00:01:27] Just another country hillside
[00:01:29] With some mudholes and some junk
[00:01:33] The mines were deadly silent
[00:01:34] Like a rathole in the wall
[00:01:39] "It was just like being right
[00:01:41] Inside of a shotgun."
[00:01:44] The old man coughed
[00:01:45] And lit a cigarette that he had rolled
[00:01:51] Back in town I bought a heavy jacket
[00:01:53] From a store
[00:01:55] It was sunny down in Hyden
[00:01:58] But somehow the town was cold
[00:02:02] The old man introduced the undertaker
[00:02:05] Who seemed refreshed despite the kind
[00:02:10] Of work I knew he did
[00:02:14] We talked about the pretty lady
[00:02:16] From the Grand Ole Opry
[00:02:19] An' we talked about the money
[00:02:21] She was raisin' for the kids
[00:02:25] Well, I guess the old man
[00:02:27] Thought we were reporters
[00:02:30] He kept reminding me of
[00:02:33] How his simple name was spelled
[00:02:37] Some lady said, "They worth more money now
[00:02:40] Than when they's a-livin'. "
[00:02:42] And I'll leave it there
[00:02:43] 'Cause I suppose she told it pretty well
