I Got the Guns

[00:00:00] Roger Creager

[00:00:46] They are little more than a few old guns handed down the line

[00:00:52] Once owned by my Nana and Papa but now they are mine

[00:01:04] They've been all the way to Utah then back home to Texas again

[00:01:10] They've seen Colorado Wyoming and the Grand Canyon

[00:01:17] Hunting trips in the freezing snow and up before the sun

[00:01:23] They're now apart of me I got the guns

[00:01:39] I never really got to know him I was much to young

[00:01:45] He died on the Corpus Christi Bay when I was one

[00:01:57] A Christian man I barely knew but he was oh so proud of me

[00:02:04] He ran the nursery at the church for free

[00:02:10] Amazing Grace how sweet the sound he always sung

[00:02:16] Sometimes I can hear him when I fire them guns

[00:02:22] I've seen tears in grown men's eyes when they speak of their granddad

[00:02:28] Then they laugh at how he spoiled then to the bone

[00:02:35] I don't have those memories that I can hold on to

[00:02:41] So I keep hanging on to his old guns

[00:02:57] Nana lived on a few more years until Christmas '79

[00:03:03] I thank God for those childhood memories of mine

[00:03:16] My sister told me in confidence her innocent secret birthday wish

[00:03:22] Dear Lord bring Nana back to us

[00:03:28] But instead she got her earrings old time clip ons and she had fun

[00:03:34] Me I was 8 years old and I got the guns

[00:03:39] I was only daughter's son his pride and all his love

[00:03:56] Maybe someday if I try my best I'll be half the man he was

[00:04:09] He knew love lasted longer The great depression only made him stronger

[00:04:15] He saved his pennied and prayed to God each night

[00:04:21] He knew how to weather hard times and showed us how to overcome

[00:04:28] I can feel his strength when I hold his guns

[00:04:36] Just and old bolt action 16 gauge

[00:05:11] And my grandmother's 410

[00:05:16] A 270 that my dad fired once

[00:05:18] He brought a mule deer in
